I have spent the last week reviewing the many listings on the American made directory category of clothes. I was shocked to see how many companies there are still manufacturing their items domestically. Not only that but how many practice sustainable and organic practices. 

American Producers focusing on Organic American Grown Cotton

We review our own site often to make sure companies listed are still doing business and are still made in the USA of course. This week during reviews I came across several clothing manufactures that not only make their clothes in the USA but only use organic American grown cotton. If you have not visited Americansworking.com in awhile you are in for a pleasant surprise. The American Made Directory of products has been re-designed and made easier than ever before to use. Additional features include leaving ratings for products made in the USA as well as leaving comments.

The site is growing like crazy as the demand for American made products is reaching new heights, however there is always room for growth.

Since you spend a third of your life in bed maybe you should make sure your mattress is American Made. The mattress is very large and hard to ship which of course makes it a great candidate to be Made in the USA. Can you imagine the shipping cost for a California King from China? Do you really want all that shipping cost rolled into your products pricing? Not to mention the amount of pollution associated with moving an item that large from the other side of the planet.

American manufacturing make have flickered like a candle in the wind but it is roaring back to life. It is an exciting time for a change for the American worker. More shoppers are demanding American made products. More companies are starting to re-shore jobs here in the USA. Level the playing field or lose more jobs.

Some say American products cost more than imports? Do you think those people really factored in all the cost? American factories have a minimum wage mandated by State and Federal law, American Factories have limits on air and water pollution. Americans are required by law to be paid overtime after 40 hours in one week. American employers incur payroll taxes. American factories pay for their power. Americans factories pay property taxes. The list goes on and on. Can you say the same thing of Chinese factories? Vietnam? India? I don't think so.

When the American Dream ends (it's not what you think)

Told you it was not what your were thinking. Well this is not an easy topic is it. When your American dream ends don't you want to go off into eternity in a casket made in the USA? I would be so angry at my family if they overlooked that little detail. I really have no idea where most caskets and coffins are made but leave nothing to chance!

Import a job and complain about outsourced customer service

Does it make you angry when you are dealing with an American company and need help and call a help line staffed out of the country. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the people outside the country working the jobs if they are available. The problem is why are they available. They are in a sense working in the United States when they are helping me in my home or my office. Buying American made in not the only way to bring jobs home. Some might say these jobs are beneath us and I say baloney until every American that wants a job has one.

Nothing means more to us than our babies safety and health. I think most Americans will agree with me that your child's health is not worth saving a dollar or two buying imported items. Just watch the headlines and you might notice all the news over the last decade about dangerous items incorporated in imported items. Just two years ago American officials stopped hundreds of thousand of toys being imported into the USA made with dangerous chemicals that are banned here. Boots Made in the USA

I bet most of our grandfathers never had to give American made boots a second thought. Back then all the boots were Made in the USA. Sadly that has changed, so many of the boots on the market today are made in factories overseas and imported by American companies. Those companies used to make their products here at home, now they have made an end run around our labor and environmental laws to produce products to sell here at home. Together we can change that and get those jobs back. Just refuse to buy imports. The pair of boots pictured in this post are made in the USA. I own that same pair and I love them. After putting in many miles through the mud and snow I can attest that they are the best boots I have ever owned.
